Memphis Composers Institute invites composers in the early stages of their orchestral composing careers to submit one orchestra work for a chance to be performed by the Memphis Symphony. This is a three-day event beginning with rehearsals and panel discussions, culminating with a performance of three orchestral works by emerging composers as well as the premiere of Artistic Coordinator D. J. Sparr’s Viola Concerto performed by Kimberly Sparr.

THE ORCHESTRA UNPLUGGED: LEONARD BERNSTEIN - MORE THAN MAESTRO

    Conductor, composer, and cultural icon - Leonard Bernstein was one of the most magnetic and influential cultural figures of the twentieth century. He composed timeless masterpieces for orchestra, opera, broadway, jazz, pop; conducted orchestras around the world, and transformed the way new media could be used to bring everyone inside the music. Music Director Robert Moody guides us through the life and legacy (including his own unique personal insights) of the American Maestro, Leonard Bernstein. Experience music throughout his legacy, including the iconic music from West Side Story.

    *The Orchestra Unplugged Series is a collaboration between the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and the Orpheum Theatre Group.
